A Price of Success
Four of technology’s most accomplished CEOs were summoned to Capitol Hill this week to answer questions regarding antitrust concerns in their industry. It was quite a sight to hear the leaders of four of the largest companies in the world speak to their tenuous competitive positions and modest size on other relative measures.
It’s a good reminder. No matter who you are, how successful your company grows to be, or how far you rise the price of supreme success in America may very well be…a Congressional hearing on antitrust. Do they deserve the investigation into anti-competitiveness? Who knows, that’s for someone else to answer.
The CEO job is a difficult one, especially at a tech behemoth. You can’t possibly know everything happening inside a massive global company yet you’re still responsible for it all. Whether you’ve risen to the highest levels or are in your first leadership role, it’s humbling to see that there is always someone else to answer to above. The questions never stop coming.
If you’re sitting on the beach dreaming of having the resources and wealth of Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, and Sundar Pichai this week it’s worth noting they spent their final week of July preparing for a congressional antitrust hearing. A hearing that could only harm their companies futures while you were sipping on summer cocktails. At least you have that.
